Why a battery is the upgrade that pays for itself.
A solar-only system gives you energy when the sun shines, which in the UK means roughly 30–40% of your annual generation actually offsets your usage. The rest is exported back to the grid at 5–15p, while you re-buy it that evening at 28–35p. A battery closes that gap.
With a properly sized battery (typically 10–20 kWh for a UK family home), self-consumption climbs to 80%+ and your home runs on solar virtually every daylight hour, even on cloudy days. Overnight, the battery picks up cheap off-peak grid power on a smart tariff like Octopus Go (currently ~7p/kWh) so you essentially never buy peak-rate electricity again.
We install only LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, the safest, longest-lasting chemistry available, from Tesla and Sigenergy. All are stackable, all support backup-mode wiring (so your home stays powered in a grid outage), and all integrate with EV chargers and smart tariffs out of the box.
Battery sizing matters. Undersize and you don't get through the evening. Oversize and the payback stretches. We model your half-hourly usage against three years of weather data and recommend the sweet spot, usually 10 or 13 kWh for a 4-bed family home with solar.
